What you will learn The Enviromental Controls Technologies (HVAC/R) program provides a balance of theory and "hands-on" applications. This includes a solid foundation in the principals of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration, combined with extensive laboratory experience.
While in the lab you will learn to test, systematically troubleshoot, repair and maintan electrical and mechanical HVAC/R systems and components. The main focus of the program is residental and light commercial heating, ventalation and air conditioning, along with food preservation refrigeration.

Extensive hands on experience using the latest technologies will help you build a resume to capture the attention to future employers and prepare you to advance as far as your skills will take you.

After you graduate you'll find immediate employment as a well paid apprentice technician. The industry is growing at a rate of 24 percent a year, so contractors need new employees right now. There are also positions as lab technicians at firms such as Emerson Climate Technolgies, Hobart and Norcold as well as sales representives with aftermarket wholesalers.

The HVAC/R industry is rapidly moving towards green solutions. It is developinginnovative technologies and using new, nonpolluting refrigerants to safe guard the enviroment. In addition to complying with laws and regulations, many in the industry are manufacturing products and pursing practices that eliminate or reduce the use of hazardous materials, minimize waste and conserve natural resources.
